There are a few locations where the code waits for data buffers to be placed on
some "queue" and then signaled that this has been done. For this purpose, it
uses an "infinite" _wait()_ call on a {{synchronized}} object. This can cause
waiting threads to hang forever even though the session/channel has been closed.
We should
* Replace these with reasonable *configurable* timeouts.
* Make sure that the wait is signaled if the relevant session/channel is closed
so it will detect the closed stream faster
