I think MIC should split ways for user and for developer.
1. For user
Download deb or tar.gz file and install.
2. For developer
git-clone

I agree that it is something one should never advertize as it will
overwrite data managed by the system's rpm or dpkg.
I wonder why Moblin doesn't distribute RPMs instead of suggesting
people to:
a) use git
b) use autogen, configure, make
c) maintain a local random version which comes from a random git rev,
has no upgrade path, wasn't QA tested etc.
At the very least, tell people to use released tarballs if you can't
ship RPMs, but asking that all users/testers use all the development
tools is painful, fragile, and dangerous IMO
