Hi Petter, The Design intent behind zones is that they should not be persistent, named places that you grow attached to but created and destroyed on demand. This way the experience scales to your usage.
Not sure exactly about the API etc. for that, startup notifications etc. which is currently being changed as I remember. Someone who actually does programming can help I suspect. There isn't yet a way of adding or removing panels on the toolbar without recompiling the software.
