You may be right. But I guess 80-90% of all average users are not capable or
willing to do this. In case they find a netbook lying somewehere they will
either give it to authorities or just innstall a new OS and format the HDD
by doing this. So using a mediocre secure password for login is better than
doing nothing.

So why not making a password login optional? If you don't trust it, don't
use it. It won't hurt anybody but helps some. :)
