Per my observation, at least on atom based netbook, there is no physical Serial port. Thus, before your nice application start, I think what you need make sure firstly 1. There is physical Serial Controller on your Atom board (lspci) 2. There is a right driver corresponding to Serial controller. (Check /dev/ttySxx) 3. Use minicom to verify serial port is workable.

I am newbie to Moblin but not to Linux programming. I don't have any serial terminal through which I can access the serial port. Is there any application which is being developed in order to access the serial port? I am planning to connect some serial devices which work on MODBUS protocol. I want to also connect the GPS receiver and other like devices in order to integrate them with my application. Please advice me on the same.
