Just realised i didn't reply to all but t's a Advent 4213 which I believe is just a re-badged MSI Wind. I may just swap out the card as you suggest!
Thinking again about the 3G problem, I think it would be great if the connection manager had a dialup option anyway. Partly so people can manually configure their 3Gs shoud they wish or to have the option for dial-up should they be in an area where it is the only option.
