Hi,

from searching the mailing list it seems that many people got Moblin
2.1 working with an Intel GMA500 chipset. I own an Archos9 internet
tablet with a GMA500 (PCI-ID: 8108) and got it working more or less.
Unfortunately I have huge stability problems. I'm using the IVI iegd
kernel module and tested the IEGD 10.2.2 driver as well as the IEGD
10.3 beta driver. No matter which driver I use, the results are the
same.

The X autostartup fails completely and I have to start the moblin
desktop manually using "startmoblin". Manually starting
/usr/sbin/uxlaunch or /usr/sbin/moblin-dm does not work. When I start
the moblin desktop manually it works more less. Some apps like the
wifi connection manager work and have no gfx problems, others are
totally garbled. I can't really describe it - the launcher panel jumps
from the top to the bottom of the screen and hides. The apps however
seem to think the panel is still there, because my mouse cursor has an
offset.

Looking around I found some corewatcher dumps. It seems that some apps
crash due to a faulty DRICreateInfoRec() function in the iegd_drv.so.
The apps which crash are different but the end it always boils down
to:

Application failure message 4:
Program: /usr/binXorg
Type: Aborted
[New process 1295]
#0 0x49640bf6 in raise () from /lib/libc.so.6
#0 0x49640bf6 in raise () from /lib/libc.so.6
#1 0x49642908 in abort () from /lib/libc.so.6
#2 0x0809db8f in ddxGiveUp ()
#3 0x0810f2d6 in AbortServer ()
#4 0x0810f810 in FatalError ()
#5 0x080b85ee in xf86SigHandler ()
#6 <signal handler called>
#7 0xb75e7921 in DRICreateInfoRec () from
/usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers//iegd_drv.so

The Xorg.0.log does not report any errors and the X server itself does
not crash either. Only apps seem to have a problem with
DRICreateInfoRec().

Does anyone know how to fix this? After all many people seem to have
Moblin working with a GMA500 chip.

Alex
