Answered my own question, you have to use XSelectInput to set the filter to 
root. Never Mind.

Does anybody know how to setup a message filter in QT 4.6 that receives XEvents 
for the entire desktop? I'm writing a taskbar app that switches the current 
window and the only simulacrum I can find is KDE's task manager but it uses the 
NETRootInfo class (a KDE abstraction on top of QT).
