I already made an izpack plugin for m2, you may check it, it is still standing on jira waiting for someone to get a look at it. you'd probably have to do somewthing like that for the thumbnail plugin too. knowing this may save you some time, do not expect your plugin to be commited as soon as you post it at jira, everyone is probably quite busy
