Max Berger commented on MOJO-642:
---------------------------------

now this goes into a completely different direction.

However, yes, I would really like some kind of simple "create a package"
solution. Trying to figure out how to create a binary package with maven was
one of the hardest tasks during the release.

I think creating an stub assembly is the way to go. This way the
responsibilities would be clearly split between appassembler and assembly. If
you create the package yourself, then you';l have to think about other stuff,
such as a README, LICENSE, etc.

Again, whatever the solution is, please make the documentation complete enough
(even if only through linking to other packets) so that first time maven users
can actually figure out what they need to do to release a package.

> When appassembler creates the shellscripts, they do not have the exectuable
> bit set. It would be nice to have this (at least on unix). This is especially
> important when creating a tar file for redistribution.
> This could be an optional feature: Try to exec chmod, and if it fails, just
> ignore it.
> Thanks
