I really have to agree with Jochen. I understand the point of alpha, beta etc in certain classes of applications but find it to be generally too much overhead with things like simple Maven plugins.
The 0.x versioning already implies "not really a full/final release" so I think the alpha tag is a bit redundant in this case, too.
