Hey David,
I was just browsing MOJO JIRA and ran across this issue you posted
back in Dec 2006.
Can I convince you to go back to this bug and post a little more info?
http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/MOJO-587
Thanks.

What I mean is that the mojo should take a parameter - in the same way as the
ant-plugin http://retroweaver.sourceforge.net/ant-task.html (target parameter),
to be able to specify what target you want to retro-back-to. E.g. specify
byte-code level/version.
> Add a target variable / setting

> There should be a target configuration attribute, to specify the target JDK
> level.
> The plugin uses 1.4 by default, this should be configurable to be able to
> support 1.2 upwards (e.g. support the same levels as retroweaver).
