I would recommend changing the version to 2.0-beta-1 so there is no
confusion with the RPM plugin for Maven 1.

Would like to open a vote for the rpm plugin version 1.0-beta-1
changes in this release is :
* Added support for %clean and %install scripts
* Added support for %define arguments
Also I would like to bring the plugin out of the sandbox since now a
couple of releases exists of it.
Site is updated to reflect the latest changes.
