I like the fail fast approach. If there's something that shouldn't be there, I 
prefer to show it to the user. This has no consequence except if the user made 
a misconfiguration because he really intended another dep to be there. Typical 
with copy paste. A warning would be the best but maven builds are so verbose at 
it is possible to not see it.

I think I prefer the fail. It forces one to clean up and may help one to detect 
a potential error early.
