In general, it's always the question what to weight more: Backward-compat or
improvements. This is somehow a subjective decision so it might be a good idea
to simply raise this question on the mailing lists such that you get an
impression what people actually think, just like Garvin did when evaluating the
Java 1.4 support for the Findbugs Plugin.
