versions:set changes the version of the module you run it in. the
then
jumps up the directory tree as long as you have aggregator
projects, and
then updates all references to the old version to be the new version,
including updating child pom's that inherit the version

And if the version comes from a variable, it modifies the
variable instead? Even if it is inherited from a parent POM?
it doesn't do variables (yet)
versions:set only works on explicit versions at the moment.
running versions:update-properties from your aggregator root (I.e. the
root that versions:set jumps up to) should have the same effect, but
we'd need to limit the scope of what artifacts it can update
properties for
