I tried that this morning, still not working. This is probably a no brainer,
but it depends on what the settings are on the project where you start findbugs
from the command line, just for grins I started mvn findbugs:gui on a project
where we didn't explicitly set the encoding, and everything worked no matter
what project I tried running it against. Then I exited findbugs, cd'd to one of
the directories where we're setting the encoding to UTF-8, crash,
bang....tinkle tinkle. The timestamp/versioning on the jar is 20090811.110150-4.
