Hi there,

thanks for your response.

correct.

I agree in general and was aware of this.
I just put this into sandbox and would not mind,
if my code or just the features get merged into
some other plugin...

However the name "version-maven-plugin" implies a tight
scope to be all about versions.
To refactor the groupId, change scopes, replace dependencies, etc.
nobody will try to evaluate a plugin called "version-maven-plugin".
But as your plugin is already quite in use, I doubt that
you are keen on renaming your plugin.

As I said there are some features that versions-plugin does not yet
cover and that might not even fit in there...

That argumentation does not make sense to me.
Then one can also say there is an overlap with release-plugin
and therefore versions-plugin has to drop some features.

Its nothing too exciting, however I would not talk about
percentages here... It has just a little different philosophy
and has some nice features you do not cover yet.
Of course there are tons of features in version-plugin
that pom-plugin does not have and I do not intend to
reinvent them.

I am absolutely open for discussion in how to bring things
together, but IMHO this will only work if both sides move
and I know this takes time and energy.

I also created pkg-maven-plugin in sandbox and in discussion
with Trygve I saw that his unix-maven-plugin is the proper
solution so I deleted pkg-maven-plugin from sandbox.
Hopefully I will find more time to support unix-maven-plugin
by the end of the year...

In the first step, I wrote pom-maven-plugin for me and some
friends that have the same need and it fits perfectly.
Now I just wanted to see if this could be helpful for others.

Maybe it would even help to first bring energy together in
extracting a generic library for bringing the
MavenProject-world and the pom.xml-world together as I
am sure that both our plugins and also many other plugins
all try to solve there problems - some better some worse.
This is nothing where maven is very strong at the moment -
except I missed something.
However something that should be better to discuss on the
maven dev list...
