Tools.jar tends always to be a bit of a hassle. We need to fix this issue promptly, but there are two things to consider here:

  1. The patch you have provided is fine for some JDKs, but the Apple JDK (JDK 1.6 produced by Apple, that is) has another location and format. I will apply this patch but tweak it to cope with the Apple JDK as well. While Apple's JDK 1.6 will not be applicable to Java 7 work, it would be good to be able to use the AspectJ Maven Plugin in a backwards compatible way running that JDK as well.
  2. I assume that there are other Mojo plugins that need to include tools.jar in the classpath - implying that the mechanics of how to do this ought to be shared between all Mojo plugins. Will briefly investigate the more appropriate way to do this, and apply.
