Flatten Maven Plugin generates a flattened version of your pom.xml and makes maven to install and deploy this one instead of the original pom.xml. This offers a workaround for some JIRA issues like: http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/MNG-2971 http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/MNG-624 http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/MNG-4161 Also it allows us to collect some experience with POM transformation and seperation of development POM and consumer view on a POM. This experience can help to make the right decisions for maven 4.x and model version 5.0.0.
