Hi Dan,
just a thought: how about changing the goals to:
* prepare-environment or prepare-system
* prepare-eclipse
* prepare-project
this way it's possible to do additional tasks without creating new goals,
since these tasks should all be done when preparing X.
Based on http://mojo.codehaus.org/development/performing-a-release.html
there are more steps to take which could be automated like this. For
instance adjusting the settings.xml

That's a brilliant idea Dan, thanks!
One thing I've also had in mind for some time is the
vote/result/announce
mail handling that could be somehow handled in that kind of
meta-plugin :-).
Not sure I'll have time to test in the upcoming weeks, but will do it
asap. Just wanted to thank you for the effort.
Cheers

I created a couple of mojo under mojodev-maven-plugin at MOJO's sandbox
[1] to import codehaus SSL certificate into you JRE, and create
eclipse
workspace with proper setup for m2e, and code formatter for java, js,
xml,
etc
Feedbacks are very welcome
