It shouldn't, but the same limitation is in JSF RI, with the same recommended workaround. There's a long thread on that in Sun's Java forum (sorry, not going to dig that up right now), but basically it's because the "for" component doesn't exist yet when the doc is being parsed the first time. h:panelgroup works because its rendering its children and at that point, the children are already known. Don't know if the forceId attribute would help in this case, but I'd guess not. Kalle
