Hold off on the JIRA issue.  IMO there's too much here for one JIRA
issue.  Let's figure out who wants to tackle what piece of this stuff.
 I need some time tonight to read through the entire message but I saw
some stuff that I was planning on updating (the dependency info.)

I will post back later tonight with the parts I plan to address. 
Others (matzew) should do the same.  How does that sound?
