Ok. I assume I missed the announcement twice. Is it a bad idea to rename the
distribution files from 1.1.1 to 1.1.1RC3?

Its not final. Its a release candidate. There is just an issue with
the build and how it names release candidates. An announcement was
made yesterday on both mailing lists explaining this.
