Besides the reasons I mentioned earlier, you are proposing adding
functionality to an existing component (as opposed to fixing broken
functionality.)  Such changes require deliberation because we don't
want to pile a bunch of stuff into the existing components if there is
another way to do this.

You will have to be patient.  There are a lot of pressing issues that
we are dealing with. Hopefully someone will get to your patch soon. In the meantime, you have the source code and with maven its easy to
compile your own components so feel free to help yourself.

The risk that this breaks something is minimal. If you look at the patch it
is all it does - adds 4 new methods to a class
Release early, release often. I think you could have included it into 1.1.2
too
