Is this really a bug? I'd say it's a feature. Some design experts insist that buttons merely be greyed out rather than removed when inactive. That would not be possible if the next/previous facets are not rendered at all times. I'd say that the children of that facet should be able to determine if they should render themselves (or grey themselves out), not the facet itself.
