JSF 2.2 depends on J2EE 6. Servlet 3.0 is part of J2EE 6. So I don't think there's anything wrong with us depending on Servlet 3.0. On the other hand, if this is our only dependency, and we can rewrite it to work with 2.5, then there's no reason preventing us from addressing this.
There is more to it, JSF 2.2 uses the servlet 3.0 fileupload api.
