The picture attatchment defines the immediate problem with malayalam fonts. Both the better fonts are not free. I prefer to go with Microsoft Karthika because almost all Malayalam supporting fonts behave like this. But Arial Unicode MS if available to all would have been the best choice because it allows perfect Malayalam. I am only showing the problem which has no alternatives. Other problems have alternatives and moreover are beyond our scope and rests with Unicode itself.
