Hello,
The NL.Openoffice.org RegiCon was held last week in Eindhoven (The
Netherlands) [1].
The theme of this one day regional conference for OpenOffice.org users
(individual and organizations) was "The power of cooperation".
We will have a report on the conference pages later this week. We are
collecting the presentations. We had live video stream from the
conference. We will try to get the video on line too.
The quality of the presentations was very good. Of course new features
(Cor Nouws [2]) and OpenDocument (Simon Brouwer [3]) were important
subjects. But the cooperation between organizations and our community
volunteers (the conference theme) was the main subject. Rafaella Braconi
[4] talked from the Sun point of view about how our community is working
together with Sun on translation of OpenOffice.org (and StarOffice of
course) to Dutch. The city of Haarlem (Jan van de Straat [5]) talked
about the choice for OOo, Kees Brouwer [6] about the web based back-end
that was developed to get rid of local MS Office macro's and templates
on the desktop, but that in the end made the migration to OpenOffice.org
a peace of cake and Han Barendrecht [7] who wrote all the training
material for the in house training of the 2000 employees that are going
to use OpenOffice.org. From the Belgium city of Schoten, Jan Verlinden
[8](who already migrated an impressive number of applications to open
source) talked about preparation for implementing OpenOffice.org.

I organized this conference together with Luc Castermans
(NL.OpenOffice.org Community Volunteer). For me our native language
community consists of our community volunteers, the people on our lists,
and every individual or organization interested in OpenOffice.org. This
RegiCon is about community building, and internal marketing. A strong
community generates a lot of positive attention. That's also the key to
happy sponsors. Thanks to our sponsors we had the financial
possibilities to make it happen.
