We are talking with extremadura, Spain, this is one of the most
concentrated deployments of free software. The rough estimate is 17,000
but it might be more since this is only schools/governments.
Another news was in macedonia where there seem to be a migration to 5,000
clients in public school of ´GNOME´ desktop. Which is not OOo but we might
get in touch and confirm which number of OOo do they estimate.

I'm once again compiling my informal list of major OOo deployments
and need help. I'd also like to make the list public and easily
editable by community members, say by putting it on the Wiki, and
have tentatively created http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/
Major_OpenOffice.org_Deployments .An IZ ticket would also work well.
You may have a look at the list the german-language-project maintains:
http://de.openoffice.org/marketing/referenzkunden.html
While it does not only contain "major" deployments, it also
conatains a
section "international" that may be more in the way you had in mind.
Thanks! Really, anything helps, but the major ones are the ones the
newspapers want. The situation now is that a lot of media come to us
and say, "Who uses OOo? What corporations? What gov'ts?" and I can
give some answers but we don't have a long, coherent list...
