Hello all, (I'm cutting all the good points below) First I would like to thank all of you for the quality and the importance of this discussion. I will try to express my views. Some of them are a bit pessimistic but they're only shown in that way in order to clear up any misunderstandings.
The present topic is one that has been discussed for years inside NL projects. While the need of getting more input from non-english speaking contributors (thus leading to a more effective bug tracking and hunting) is obvious, the way to take this input and integrate it into our QA process is not that obvious. The proposal made by Tora is so far the most elaborate proposal in this direction, but it is not the first. I think that his plan can work, but we have to keep in mind three problems that won't be solved by the proposal: - instigating QA reporters in english for each NL project (coordinating the issues filed by local reporters) is a good idea but please do not forget that no NL project is created equal. Some are struggling to get the next milestone translated, others are writing marketing plans. So do not expect to have all the NL projects implement this proposal, far from that. -While I'm sure that this proposal will help a lot, it won't help in the following cases: 1° a local reporter doesn't know what his problem is (do not mix language barrier and lack of skills!!!) 2° A patch can be worked on for one specific issue but for roadmap and milestones problems, Hamburg won't integrate it. -While we implement that plan, there will always be other people who master english more or less well but who will file issues in IZ. Some of these issues may be very important, some of them will not, and the reporter won't know that his/her language is represented through a NL project, and won't know the QA reporter. My point here is that we should not overly "systemize" everything to the point that the process is there, rigid, and nobody can get beside it. This is Free Software after all and if someone feels he/she can file an issue, just let him/her do. Otherwise, I support the proposal. Thank you again, Charles. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
