Translation of templates has a few issues. The most important is the layout,
which also needs to be localized. For example, in Finland, official documents
are based on the SFS 2487 standard, which I think is based on some ISO layout
standard. Most of the templates distributed by the Finnish team are based on
the standard, and we would very much like to have any templates distributed
with OOo to follow it.

Extraction of strings from odf to xliff and po would be most welcome for
document translation purposes. I have once written such program for another
message format. Extraction and merging back are somewhat easy to do with xslt.

Aihe: [native-lang] ODF format to XLIFF and back

Hello!

The goal is to create an process where the contributors can translate
the templates from English to other languages. First I was thinking
about converting ODF templates to PO, but I found I have to convert them
to XLIFF because of lacking ODF2PO utilities. Next I wanted to test
tools that convert ODF to XLIFF for translation and convert it back. I
found 2-3 utility that can do the trick. One of the is open language
tool (https://open-language-tools.dev.java.net/#releases) that looks
like as a working solution. I found that no templates support, so I have
to rename files to OD? instead of using OT... Is it possible to do, or
this is an enhancement request?
Also I found that - it is not possible to translate meta.xml
information - like template title, article, other meta element. Can I
request to do it for the next version?
Have you found better way? Generally I want to find a good way that
support mass translation and what is easy for the translation
contributors.

Best regards,

KAMI
