Hi all,

So here is the annual report of the Francophone project for 2007. I've followed the questions asked by Charles.

*Numbers of users
I still do not know how to know that !
We have had and still have huge migrations in administrations (more than
400 000 desktops and real numbers will be communicated during the Solutions Linux event in Paris next week).
Large companies are beginning their migrations, and it's new for our
project, they will communicate to the press. So it's seems quite
promising for OOo in France, Belgium and Switzerland in 2008.
The North of Africa is moving quite slowly but with some European
supports, some administrations are also migrating (in Morocco for
example).
West Africa is following the same slow move but during the last
Free Software African meeting, we have seen a real interest for free
softwares in companies [1]. However, you know how MS is present in those countries so, I'm not really optimistic, there is still a lot of work to provide. Of course, some countries don't use only French, but Belgium administrations for example are using OOo in 4 languages so language packs are really important to maintain.

*Members
Well, when CN will provide a tool to count them, I'll tell you ;)
However, for my own point of view, it's not the most important, users and active members are those who really represent the project, it's so usual to subscribe to a web page, without even thinking of it.
**Active members
Like others, our project is focusing on several activities:
Documentation, Quality Assurance, Localization, Support and Marketing
for the most important.
I do not have an exact number of active members, because a year is long, and some who are active at one moment are not at the other. But our project can count on approximatively 50 members that are always actives on the different tasks.

*Downloads
Thanks to Frank Mau, the Dashboard [2] is now providing our download stats.
I've monitored the monthly stats on the Proxad server for FR downloads:
. for 2006 it was about 115 146 download
. for 2007 it was about 225 833 download
There is still issues with the bouncer links for some African countries, they encounter very very long download time.

*Most popular issues
http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=17169
and the removal of layout in Impress since 2.0.

*Missing resources
Well I know that in front of lot of your project, we have a lot of
resources, but you know, we are never enough ;)
- QA for Dev versions
- Members able to attend to other manifestations than those in France and mostly in Africa - Resources to distribute our product and documentations in those countries where Internet is so expensive
- support with machines for the QA team.

*Goals of the project and how we have reach them:

**The Documentation sub-project has been so active and enthusiastic, they have migrated our FAQ on the wiki before we realized it exists ;)
- we had a cross-project work with Framasoft [3] and the migration guide
they have translated and where we have bring our OOo expertise
- we have tried to participate to a school manual writing but it was not
a success however the manual will be published next year. Our opinions
differed from the editor's one on the content and the license, but at
the end, the most important thing is that this manual exist.
- this is about 1500 messages that have been exchanged on this list !

**The Quality Assurance sub-project has been also very present on this
repetitive and sometime boring task ;)
- we have been able to test all the RC and L10n releases
- we have more and more people testing the dev releases and when we will
be able to access the tests of the test cases I'm sure we will have more
participants
- the TCM is completely translated and maintained for each release, and
QA Track is updated

**Localization, we are very proud to have achieve this :) We are only 4
members to participate but it's a great experience and share between us.
We are going to move to Pootle, and it will be a new experience for us,
but we are happy too.
We will now add the extensions and extension site to our scope of localization.

**A grammatical spell shecker is in progress [4]. It's developed by Agnes Souque and it's a huge work followed by Laurent Godard and that has been supported first by his company (Nuxeo) and now mine (Linagora). This spell checker follows a new concept and will be available for the other open source projects and at the end of the development, for other languages.

**The spell checker is now integrated to the 2.4 release and will save us a lot of mail, hum sorry, will help a lot of users ;) This spell checker has been reworked during this year thanks to a team called Dico Savant [5].

*What has been founded by our project
The Cusoon assocation has founded the Mac Porting project for material
and travel expenses, and has help the QA Track development.
It has been able to help some attendees to join our local events. And we
have been able to buy some goodies to be sold on our online shop [6].
The budget has been closed for 2007 and published by the treasurer last week [7].

*Marketing activities
Goodies are sold on the Cusoon online shop and during the booth we hold
on several major events.
We had a booth at Solutions Linux 2007 in Paris, at Intertice in Paris, at the Free Software day in Montpelier, at the Free Libre Software meeting in Amiens and at the Free Software Days in Lyon.
During the same events, we have had presentations or workshop. Some
local events have been organized in Nantes, Montpellier, Lyon, Bordeaux and Paris where we have been able to present OOo too. Charles has represented our project during the Mozilla Day in Paris. And I have been invited with Mozilla, AFUL and Wikipedia to a live broadcast on Direct-8 TV.

We have a great network of journalists, trusted (and helping us a lot
when we need to alert the opinion on some curious practice of our
concurrents ;-)
Charles, and several FLOSS associations, in France has lead a rude
campaign during the OOXML/ISO affair and the AFNOR position in France is the fruit of their hard work.

*User support
The overall project has exchange more than 17 400 mails during the year
with more that 1 000 on the programmation list (which is mostly dealing
with Basic and APIs and a big thanks to Bernard Marcelly and Laurent
Godard) and more than 10 000 mails on the users list. There is a great
team on this list who answers the mails day after day, to very beginners
or advanced users, in a really professional manner. Each question get an answer and sometimes, only some minutes after :)

We have failed on maintaining a news letter, it's not an easy task and a
bit repetitive, may be offering a blog where every invested members can
post would help to bring this information channel in our project.

*What's next:
So 2008 will be the year of 3 and a great year for OOo in all the NLC
projects, this is my wish for all of you.
Tony has left his co-lead at the beginning of the year and I will resign
also this year, so we are currently reorganizing the project in order to
ensure a smooth transition between us and continue to lead OOo to the success !

Kind regards
Sophie
