Dear all,

This is a quick note to announce that OpenOffice.org 2.x will soon be
available in Scottish Gaelic (gd). This builds upon the previous
localisation of OpenOffice.org 1.1.1 which was completed in 2005. This
version of the software is currently being used in every Gaelic-medium
and Gaelic-teaching school in Scotland.

As with our previous project, the Scottish Gaelic version of
OpenOffice.org 2 is being funded by the Scottish Government through
Learning and Teaching Scotland. Our immediate target audience consists
of school children and teachers at all levels of Gaelic education.

One of my priorities for this iteration of the project is to establish a
proper project website within OpenOffice.org so that work can more
easily proceed on a voluntary basis upon completion of this particular
development phase. Time constraints and issues around language usage
debate prevented us from properly fulfilling this element of the project brief last time so it is certainly something that is high on the agenda
now.

If anyone is interested in the Gaelic version of this software, would
like to help as a contributor or is interested in continuing to work on
OpenOffice.org in Gaelic once version 2.x has been released, please
don't hesitate to get in touch with me.

Best wishes

Long time no see! Well, these are good news indeed. John McCreesh must be dancing a guigue by now ... at least virtually ;-) Thank you for your report and hopefully you'll be able to gather more volunteers this time.

Cheers,

Charles.
