OpenOffice.org extension "Default Settings For Japanese" is released.
This is an OpenOffice.org extension that tweaks the default settings of text formatting and adds several Clip Art images and ready-to-use templates. This kind of extension has been demanded among Japanese users for years since OpenOffice.org is well made, but its default settings are generally tuned for Western culture, not for Asian one. OpenOffice.org Users Group Japan (OOoUG.jp) released the Default Settings For Japanese Version 1.0 on June 29, 2009. This extension will provide both casual and professional Japanese speaking users with better office suite environment by appropriately changing the default settings of about 30 entries including alignment justification and the default font names. Information-technology Promoting Agency, Japan (IPA) has been releasing a set of Japanese fonts -- highly compatible to the fonts embedded in Windows Japanese -- for free-of-charge with not-so-restricted license. Many Linux Japanese users install the IPA fonts in their PCs and servers. This extension will automatically set the IPA fonts as the default ones.
