I will try the zip version. I use snap version of netbeans for a while from
netbeans 11.0, nearly zero freeze. The JDK is oracle java 8.

This is from Netbeans about dialog:

Product Version: Apache NetBeans IDE 11.1

Java: 1.8.0_201; Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM 25.201-b09

Runtime: Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 1.8.0_201-b09

System: Linux version 5.1.16-050116-generic running on amd64; UTF-8; zh_CN (nb)

User directory: /home/kain/snap/netbeans/common/data/11.1

Cache directory: /home/kain/snap/netbeans/common/cache/11.1

I found the log file(in /home/kain/snap/netbeans/common/data/11.1), but I can't
find any related error on freeze, may be it's a bug from gde or snap. I'll keep
testing to see if there are any clues related to this. Thanks Glenn.
If you can, please try the zip too and see if the behaviour is the same. Or
share the exact steps that trigger it. I've noticed this a couple of times in
11.0 and 11.1 but not sure exactly the cause. Which JDK are you running with?
Thanks, Neil
