before jumping to conclusions about old dependencies, did you check your network setup? How are you connected to the internet? Is there a proxy/vpn/some other "pretty" network device in between? Or some snake- oil firewall? In your message log trace it is noticable, that not only the git clone fails, but the fetch of the update center catalog.xml.gz fails too. Both run into timeouts. This makes me suspect, that the network connection is indeed broken. If you want to update the jgit dependency - great, the last try seems to be abandoned.
