I’m not sure if this is the proper forum for this question or not, but is there
a manifesto for what Netbeans is tasked with accomplishing? Is there more to it
than just keeping a (beloved) IDE project & framework alive? Is it to be (for
example) the best of breed or reference implementation for <insert, say, Java,
feature here>? What would compel me as, say, a developer, to want to continue
to invest my time in using Netbeans vs. transitioning to a different IDE or
application platform? What is the future roadmap for features? Enhancements?
Kindly note these are not cynical questions AT ALL and I am merely looking to
discover a source for this type of information or foment a discussion on this
topic.

Forgive me if this question has been asked and answered already here or
somewhere else obvious. If that is the case, please point this out with
appropriate reference.

Thanks,
Jake
