It's not meant as a veto, but I cannot see an advantage of removing the
feature. If users are still using it (even though some components are
not well supported) then let them use if if they want.s
CDE was open sourced a few years ago, so I don't see a reason why this
is classified as "outdated". Also it seems it's quite performant, so I
imagine people still use in small boxes.
If we're aiming at removing "outdated" features, then J2EE is possibly
more outdated than the open source version of CDE.

I'm personally +1 to removing the option, but not the code, at this
point - would still be settable via arguments I assume?
If that -1 is meant as a veto, could you be more specific on
reasoning, and on addressing issues that Laszlo mentioned about lack
of support across components?
