Well, I planned a small update for middle of January, but that would be 12.0u2 which would be backporting a few patches from 12.1 and 12.2 back to 12.0 release branch.

As we haven't decide the fate of LTS yet, but we said LTS in public, probably it is the best thing to act like that.

As of VSNetBeans vs release schedule, I'm more skeptic. It would be good to know what would be the hurry for it. Is a conference coming up to present, some other project has a deadline or something else? BTW on 15th of January we would have our first beta of 12.3.

Usually a release is different from a single code snapshot is "only" the approval of the community, (and if we are lucky it is tested a bit more.) So every release, small or large, is a PMC/community event.

So if the PMC/community is supporting that release you are free to do it. If I have to vote for that, my vote would be a: 0

Couldn’t that simply be 12.3:
The schedule isn't working for our needs. We'd like to release the
update to the VSNetBeans in the middle of January.

the question is: do we care for the release schedule? If we release in
mid january, releasing again mid february is insane. I have no hard
feelings here, but in the end we either want time based releases or we
don't.

We can also say, that we aim to release 4 times a year and the second
release each year gets more attention for testing then the others.

What I notice is, that there is no reasoning given for the release in
january. There is nothing stopping anyone releasing products that
require updates to netbeans source code a month later.

Greetings

Matthias
