Hi, I’ve found the issue with Gradle experimental new option in 12.4 Beta1, right after I’ve sent +1 vote there ;-) As Laszlo wrote in his announcement for new feature "Gradle Project Loading Changes, Call for Test/Review” on Mar 29th “...my aim is to deliver the code with the feature switched off by default…” I realized that it is ON after some testing and being pointed there by Laszlo…
This experimental feature is now ON by default and it causes a regression even for simple Gradle projects when being opened in NetBeans. Project imports statements are marked as "package x.y.z does not exist” and for classes from such package even code completion does not work. I documented that in the issue https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/NETBEANS-5540 It can be turned OFF in Gradle Experimental options. Unfortunately it has severe impact to VSNetBeans (VSCode ext) which has no options for this…. I fully understand that Laszlo wants to get some testing and early feedback for big change he did. To proceed with 12.4 Beta in this stage we can either fix this and do another Beta build. Or as VSNetBeans is significantly affected turn the Gradle lazyOpen OFF just in VSNetBeans Beta build when this will be done. This is not a code change, just add the properties file. ?? thank you, Martin On 5 Apr 2021, at 18:05, Neil C Smith <[email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>> wrote: On Sat, 3 Apr 2021 at 00:31, Laszlo Kishalmi <[email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>> wrote: As of a vote threas, are we aiming for public beta then? In addition to what Geertjan said, I'd say VSNetBeans was the impetus, but not the only reason for doing this. We're not meant to be sharing links to unvoted sources or binaries, particularly when it's downloading directly from builds, anywhere other than on the dev@ list. If we move to having a beta a couple of weeks before freeze, a simple master snapshot that's been voted on, then we can put on dist.a.o and link as wide as we want for testing in the lead up to final freeze / release branching. We're hoping it'll help in making the quarterly releases more manageable.
