I did some more reading on the Matomo website (since I don't really know
this tracker).
https://matomo.org/faq/general/faq_20000/
mentions that it has opt-out capability. This basically means "cookie
banner", IMO the internet has enough of those.
Also interesting: to make this banner render, i have to disable pihole,
the uBlock browser plugin and tell firefox itself to not block trackers.
That is a lot of whitelisting!
(although i have to admit I haven't tested all combinations, I just kept
disabling things till it showed up)
I don't really want to -1 this but I would like to ask this question:
Do we really need this? What is the benefit of knowing how many clicks
what gets? Apache NetBeans is not a business after all. If we want
metrics, commit stats are easy to acquire.
Maybe I misunderstood this but Eric said "it may help us fixing 404
mostly". This didn't convince me. Thats why I suggested trying to find
other ways how to detect dead links. I can't imagine you would require
client side tracking for this but maybe I am wrong.
I like the German word "Datensparsamkeit", here is an explanation for it:
https://martinfowler.com/bliki/Datensparsamkeit.html
so my current vote is -0.4 which rounds up to 0.0 :)
best regards,
michael

Hi folks,
This mail is to make more formal the proposal to setup the ASF Matomo
instance for Apache NetBeans.
This webside analytics tool is compatible GPDR and his allowed by ASF. I
hope it may help us fixing 404 mostly.
This is a lazy consensus thread open for 72. +1 are optional. Do raise
concern or -1
It this thread is ok it will be the support to ask infra for a Matomo token
setup and will see configuration later on our website (netbeans.apache.org
and bits.netbeans.org)
Best Regards
Eric
