Hi all, I'd like to propose a two-phased code donation -- the first for all the parts necessary for building a Java SE distribution of NetBeans IDE and the second for all the other parts.
I.e., the first code donation would be 5a-d in the link below and the second code donation would be 5e-f in the link below. https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/NETBEANS/Apache+Transition The reasons for this is that the auditing process we're going through, i.e., auditing the NetBeans sources and meeting and discussing these within Oracle is taking up time. Therefore, by having a first donation done, while continuing with the auditing process on the sources for the second donation, enables us to: - show progress, i.e., we'll have code in Apache, enough to put together NetBeans for Java SE development. - produce a first release of NetBeans in the Apache incubator, which is what we need to do before being able to become a top level Apache project - be able to work on the Apache licensing checks on a significant part of the code, while the second part is being audited in Oracle - potentially, if the auditing for the second code donation takes too long, have at least enough to produce a NetBeans 9 for Java SE, though we don't expect the second code donation to take too long. The status right now is that we anticipate that the basic Java SE IDE functionality (i.e., 5d) would be audited by March 3rd. At that point, once having processed the comments, the code for the first donation should be ready. There'll be things to work through re syncing between the code at Apache and the code still at Oracle, though at least we will be able to gain from the four benefits listed above. Thanks, Gj
