Hi all, A pretty significant development wrapped up over the past week -- the reviews and edits of the NetBeans source code for the 1st code donation.
http://deadlock.netbeans.org/job/prototypes-donation_review/ The latest changes are here, which shows not just the last few files that needed to be deleted, but also the fact that the code written in support of JDK 9, e.g., the Jigsaw tools and JShell tools in NetBeans IDE, are now also part of the donation branch: http://deadlock.netbeans.org/job/prototypes-donation_review/changes We have put the ZIP file below (as well as the reviewed and edited ZIPs of html4j and jackpot30) into a separate location, with a specific name, which will be listed in the grant document: http://deadlock.netbeans.org/job/prototypes-donation_review/lastSuccessfulBuild/artifact/netbeans-donation-review.zip So, in fact, everything you find in the ZIP above is precisely the NetBeans source code that is planned to be donated to Apache as part of the 1st code donation. The page below has been updated accordingly, it currently looks like there will be three separate code donations: https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/NETBEANS/Apache+Transition I.e., the Java SE IDE is the 1st code donation, everything else making up the 'All" distribution will be the 2nd code donation, and a few ancillary repositories will be the 3rd code donation. See above for details. Right now, the only step standing in the way of the ZIP file being put in the Apache NetBeans Git repo is the actual grant document itself, which can now be put together, since we have the ZIP we will donate available at a specific location and with a specific name, which can then be specified in the grant document. We don't anticipate the grant document taking long to be put together, Oracle legal is aware of where we are in the process, and we'll keep everyone up to date as this progresses. Personally, I believe it should be a matter of days for this to make its way to Apache. In the meantime, Jirka Kovalsky, Hermien Pellissier, and John McDonnell have been doing great work in getting the NetCAT program started within Apache. The aim of all this in terms of milestones and deadlines is to release NetBeans IDE 9 together with JDK 9, which is currently scheduled to be released in September. Aside from the participants in the NetCAT program needing to test the NetBeans IDE 9 build, once we have that binary available in Apache, quite some IP work needs to be done, e.g., there'll be (L)GPL code we'll need to work through (e.g., Hibernate is (L)GPL and we have tooling for Hibernate, including the (L)GPL JAR related to Hibernat) in one way or another. On top of the above, there's the work to be done around the website, with Wade Chandler to provide us with an overview of the templating strategy he's been working on and he'll be proposing. In short, things are moving along. If you're on the list of initial committers and haven't sent in your iCLA yet, please do so as soon as you can, i.e., step 2A below: https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/NETBEANS/How+to+Participate Questions/comments are very welcome. Feel free to start new mail threads on a specific topic if you think a longer discussion will need to come out of it. Geertjan
