Dear all,

We have a very active week behind. We actually released Apache (incubating) NetBeans 9.0 RC1! Big thanks to the community and Emilian and Antonio  for the coordination and website work!

We celebrated the 1.7 million silently active NetBeans users, and had a long debate how the first after beta before/nearly rc1 release should be called, then how shall we call the IDE. Well, it seems the branding work can be started soon as these issues are settling down with an agreement.

But let's see the week in numbers:

This week we resolved 5 issues  and we got 34 new.

We have 696 (+34) open issues: 477 (+32) bugs, 129 (+1) improvements, 34 feature requests, 29 tasks and 11(+1) wishes

From these issues: 5 blockers, 19 criticals, 538 (+24) major, 119 (+8) minor and 13 trivial

In our repository we have 37 (+3) Pull Requests, which is getting a bit out of sych with the 27 open issues with PR-s. There are lot of PRs stranding for weeks and probably need some love.

Regarding NetBeans 9.0:

Hail the RC1!

We went up for 5(+2) blockers this week, one new is just a remainder work for branding update. The other one is more interesting: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/NETBEANS-892 Refactoring issue. I might not judge that a blocker just critical at most, though take a look please.

We still want JUnit 5.0 the most.

The dev mailing list was exploded last week, I do not try to measure which topic was the most popular, though the how shall we call the IDE on branding and release candidate naming was the favorite.

It seems people just discovering our JIRA and we got around 40 issues a week. Some of them are just IDE misuse or something went wrong. If somebody has some time to spend and not necessarily want to code or have just half an hour, just kick this filter https://issues.apache.org/jira/issues/?filter=12343903, pick an issue and even if it couldn't be solved, just try to add/request for more information.
