Regarding @joewitt's comment, yes it is still an outstanding issue since we need to modify ReflectionUtils to allow the invocation of non-public methods. So feel free to raise JIRA, but I am also interested what @markap14 thinks about it (allowing ReflctionUtils.invoke*** to invoke non-public methods). In any event, the close() now is implemented with required safety in place to ensure idempotency, so not a pressing issue.
