    @mattyb149 the challenge with settings.xml is that it will still not solve 
the issue that requires the vendor specific profile, the java arg. 
    
    But leaving the arg aside (I agree that is very vendor specific and not as 
terrible as having to sync between trees as now) truth be told, the only reason 
we need the `custom_hadoop_libraries` profile at all is because I am fencing 
the default build to be as vanilla as possible, with absolute no reference to 
CDH, HDP or MapR artifacts in what gets shipped.
    
    Had we decided to follow Spark (adding the repositories to the top pom.xml) 
that profile would be made redundant.
    
    Happy to remove the -Pmapr from the pull and leave that step as a manual 
step if that makes a difference
