The short answer is that this is expected behavior for NiFi and NiFi Registry. NiFi and NiFI Registry include automated migration capabilities for the H2 database in version 1. This allows straightforward upgrades within the same major release version. NiFi 2.0.0 removes this automated migration capability, and it is expected that any upgrades from version 1 will require first upgrading to the latest minor release version, which will be 1.24.0 following the completion of this release cycle. NiFi Registry 1.24.0 and 2.0.0-M1 will continue to support H2, but version 2.0.0 will require upgrading to 1.24.0 before upgrading to 2.0.0.
