We have a reasonable amount of time before student proposals are to be formally submitted, reviewed and accepted, however I would ask you to review the ticket, add your suggestions there and join the Giraph community mailing lists to see what kind of development is going on over there. Mail traffic is not too high so any questions you have will be answered.
