First of all, thanks a lot for the warm welcoming! I've been working with Nutch for almost 3 years now, since the times of Nutch 1.4 If I don't remember wrongly :) and it has been a really rewarding experience. Its amazing the effort put by the Nutch community into this amazing piece of software. I've been working with Nutch 1.x and did several changes to adapt it into our specific needs, including an image search engine powered by Nutch as the crawler. There are a lot of things in Nutch that I have to learn yet, but I will do my best to improve Nutch and provide help to the questions posted on the user list.
